健康資訊是與大眾有關之醫學及健康照護相關的資訊（R. Cullen, 2006）。CAPHIS/MLA（1996）將健康資訊（health information）界定為「提供符合一般社會大眾、病患及其家屬所需要之健康及醫療主題相關資訊。」這些資訊包含：疾病的徵狀、診斷與治療相關、協助健康促進與決策、預防醫學、健康決策以及健康照護等相關資訊。
本研究將「網路健康資訊」定義為，以網路為載體，針對個人需求提供符合健康促進、預防與治療，並協助進行健康相關決策，以文字、圖片、聲音等多媒體方式呈現傳達之資訊。
